What Should Be The Main Function Of A University

Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer.

What, in your opinion, should be the main function of a university? (250 words)

University is a place where people go with dreams in their eyes. They aspire to fulfill their goals in life through the doors of university. A university is not just a place to learn and acquire knowledge of various subjects but a place that can transform the whole state of affairs somewhat more accomplished and can improve human sustainability on this planet Earth. So far the functions of a university are concerned, are many in number. The apparent functions of a university are to provide courses of study, conduct examinations, and award degrees and other qualifications. Besides, it promotes and facilitates research.

Unfortunately, universities have now become more of a business collaboration. Many big names prepare students for job markets. Universities, too, feel more confident when their students get distinctions in their respective fields. They work on commercial grounds and focus on making students eligible to secure jobs. These universities take high tuition fees in exchange for professional degrees. Students aspire to get enrolled in modern institutes of education so that they would earn high and make their future more secure and promising.

Universities tend to give students only the required knowledge for better market explorations and job opportunities. Somehow this automatically ignores some of the major goals that can improve the quality of life in terms of sustainability and future survival. Things like that have transformed the students into a personality that hardly thinks out of the blue.

Besides making students high-earning gadgets it is the responsibility of universities to give them additional knowledge. They must focus on developing the problem-solving skills of students. They can make them more aware socially as well as politically. Imparting important moral and cultural values can also be on the agenda of universities.

Universities need to provide them with a well-rounded education that gives them critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition, institutions need to do a better job of partnering with businesses to give students real-world experience. This helps prepare them for their careers too. Moreover, a university may collaborate with educational, business, professional, trade union, cultural, and artistic, to further its objectives.

In short, universities can convert students into a better human beings with improved communication skills and personality traits. A university must be a place of light, liberty, and learning.
